\u010cas od 18.6. do 3.7. sme s babami mali mo\u017enos\u0165 str\u00e1vi\u0165 v malinkej dedinke Chidira vo vn\u00fatrozem\u00ed ostrova Lesvos v Gr\u00e9cku. I\u0161lo o t\u00edmov\u00fd dobrovo\u013en\u00edcky projekt, ktor\u00e9ho cie\u013eom bolo zve\u013eadi\u0165 verejn\u00e9 priestory dedinky a zorganizova\u0165 aktivity pre deti.
Cel\u00e9 na\u0161e dobrodru\u017estvo sa za\u010dalo u\u017e v pr\u00edstave mesta Pireas, kde sme sa ve\u010der 18.6. stretli s v\u00e4\u010d\u0161inou dobrovo\u013en\u00edkov a organiz\u00e1tormi. Nasadli sme spolu na trajekt, na ktorom sme str\u00e1vili prv\u00fd ve\u010der a n\u00e1sledne aj noc, nako\u013eko cesta trvala okolo 13 hod\u00edn. S ostatn\u00fdmi dobrovo\u013en\u00edkmi sme sa hne\u010f spriatelili, cel\u00fd ve\u010der sme hrali hry, prech\u00e1dzali sa po lodi a rozpr\u00e1vali sa. R\u00e1no sme sa u\u017e zobudili v pr\u00edstavnom meste Mytilini, kde u\u017e n\u00e1s \u010dakali \u010fal\u0161\u00ed organiz\u00e1tori. Pomocou ich \u00e1ut n\u00e1s za hodinku prepravili do na\u0161ej fin\u00e1lnej destin\u00e1cie Chidiry.<\/p>\n

Na\u0161e ubytovanie bolo ve\u013emi jednoduch\u00e9. Spali v priamo v kult\u00farnom centre dediny na vojensk\u00fdch posteliach, sprchy sme mali priamo pod hol\u00fdm nebom. Stravu sme mali zabezpe\u010den\u00fa od 3 \u00fa\u017easn\u00fdch \u017eien \u017eij\u00facich v dedine.
Prv\u00e9 dva dni boli venovan\u00e9 \u201cbonding time\u201c. Ke\u010f u\u017e sme navz\u00e1jom poznali, pri\u0161iel \u010das na pr\u00e1cu, pre ktor\u00fa sme na miesto pri\u0161li. Rozdelili sme sa do 3 t\u00edmov, pod\u013ea miesta pracoviska. Prv\u00fd t\u00edm bol Wall team. Ich \u00falohou bolo nama\u013eova\u0165 na stenu vysok\u00fa asi 8 metrov s textom \u201cWelcome to Chidira\u201c a doplni\u0165 text o aspekty vystihuj\u00face dedinu.
P\u00edsmen\u00e1 ich trocha potr\u00e1pili, no v\u010faka dom\u00e1cim a ich bagru to nakoniec v\u0161etko zvl\u00e1dli. \u010eal\u0161\u00edm t\u00edmom bol Bus stop team. V dedine maj\u00fa jednu autobusov\u00fa zast\u00e1vku a ich \u00falohou bolo ju trocha o\u017eivi\u0165. Portr\u00e9t v\u00fdznamn\u00e9ho gr\u00e9ckeho umelca naroden\u00e9ho priamo v dedine, portr\u00e9t antickej poetky Sappho alebo aj ove\u010dky ako typick\u00fd symbol dediny nesmeli na sten\u00e1ch zast\u00e1vky ch\u00fdba\u0165. <\/p>\n

Asi 20 min\u00fat pe\u0161o od dediny sa nach\u00e1dza v lese skryt\u00fd vodop\u00e1d, v ktorom sme str\u00e1vili nejedno tepl\u00e9 popoludnie.
Neby\u0165 ale dom\u00e1cich, len ve\u013emi \u0165a\u017eko by sme ho na\u0161li. S t\u00fdmto mal pom\u00f4c\u0165 tret\u00ed a tie\u017e posledn\u00fd t\u00edm. Dostali nieko\u013eko dreven\u00fdch do\u0161ti\u010diek, z ktor\u00fdch mali vytvori\u0165 zna\u010dky pre lep\u0161iu navig\u00e1ciu \u013eud\u00ed k vodop\u00e1du. V t\u00edmoch sa n\u00e1m pracovalo \u00fa\u017easne. Pr\u00e1cu sme si spr\u00edjem\u0148ovali hudbou, ob\u010das aj tancom, bavilo n\u00e1s pracova\u0165 v t\u00edme a sledova\u0165 ako z dedinky rob\u00edme kraj\u0161ie miesto. Mali sme mo\u017enos\u0165 sa aj bli\u017e\u0161ie spozna\u0165. Museli sme pracova\u0165 spolu aby sme pr\u00e1cu dokon\u010dili, \u010do n\u00e1s nau\u010dilo komunikova\u0165 ale tie\u017e po\u010d\u00fava\u0165 a necha\u0165 sa in\u0161pirova\u0165 n\u00e1padmi ostatn\u00fdch.<\/p>

Ve\u010dery mali zasa trocha in\u00fa atmosf\u00e9ru. Niektor\u00e9 ve\u010dery sme sedeli v miestnom kaf\u00e9, hrali hry, smiali sa a rozpr\u00e1vali sa a\u017e do v\u00fdchodu slnka. In\u00e9 sme tr\u00e1vili v obklopen\u00ed dom\u00e1cich. Spolu s nimi sme zorganizovali social coffee, ktor\u00e9ho hlavn\u00e1 my\u0161lienka bola stretn\u00fa\u0165 \u017eeny a diev\u010dat\u00e1 \u017eij\u00face v dedine. Chceli sme zisti\u0165 viac o ich \u017eivote, o ich denn\u00fdch rutin\u00e1ch, zvykoch, trad\u00edci\u00e1ch no tie\u017e o ich snoch a z\u00e1\u013eub\u00e1ch. Cel\u00fd ve\u010der bol jeden nezabudnute\u013en\u00fd z\u00e1\u017eitok. <\/p>

Culture night mala tie\u017e svoje \u010daro. Tancovali sme tance z r\u00f4znych kraj\u00edn, spievali a rozpr\u00e1vali sa. Aktivita pre deti tie\u017e zo\u017eala \u00faspech. Prichystali sme si r\u00f4zne stanovisk\u00e1 s hrami, na konci ktor\u00fdch ich \u010dakalo prekvapenie. Na\u0161e vo\u013en\u00e9 dni sme vyu\u017eili produkt\u00edvne. Spolo\u010dne sme precestovali viacero miest na ostrove, kde sme si u\u017e\u00edvali najm\u00e4 more a pl\u00e1\u017ee. Nav\u0161t\u00edvili sme ale samozrejme aj historick\u00e9 pamiatky a objavovali \u010daro jednotliv\u00fdch miest. L\u00fa\u010dilo sa n\u00e1m \u0165a\u017eko. Vytvorili sme si nov\u00e9 priate\u013estv\u00e1, ktor\u00e9 ako v\u0161etky d\u00fafame, vydr\u017eia e\u0161te dlh\u00e9 roky. V Chidire sme ka\u017ed\u00e1 nechali k\u00fasok seba a to nie len ako odtla\u010dok dlane na stene. D\u00fafame, \u017ee sme k\u00fasok seba nechali aj medzi \u013eu\u010fmi \u017eij\u00facimi v dedine, \u017ee sme im uk\u00e1zali nie\u010do nov\u00e9, nie\u010do \u010do ich m\u00f4\u017ee do bud\u00facna obohati\u0165. Rovnako si aj my odn\u00e1\u0161ame k\u00fasok Chidiry v sebe. E\u0161te dlho si v sebe ponesieme v\u0161etko \u010do n\u00e1s toto miesto a hlavne \u013eudia v \u0148om nau\u010dili.<\/p>\n

From June 18th to July 3rd, we girls had the opportunity to spend time in a tiny village called Chidira, located in the inland part of the island of Lesvos, Greece. It was a team volunteering project with the goal of improving the village\u2019s public spaces and
organizing activities for local children.<\/p>\n

Our adventure began in the port of Piraeus, where we met most of the volunteers and organizers on the evening of June 18th. We boarded a ferry together, where we spent our first evening and also the night, as the journey took around 13 hours. We quickly bonded with the other volunteers \u2014 we played games, walked around the ship, and talked all night. In the morning, we woke up in the port town of Mytilene, where more organizers were already waiting for us. They drove us to our final destination, Chidira, which took about an hour.<\/p>\n

Our accommodation was very simple. We slept directly in the village\u2019s cultural centre on military-style beds, and our showers were out in the open, under the sky. Our meals were taken care of by three amazing women from the village.
The first two days were dedicated to &quot;bonding time.&quot; Once we got to know each other, it was time to get to work \u2014 the reason we had come. We divided into three teams based on the location of the tasks.
The first group was the Wall Team. Their task was to paint a mural on a roughly 8- meter-high wall with the words \u201cWelcome to Chidira\u201d and add visual elements that reflect the spirit of the village. The letters proved a bit challenging, but with help from
the locals and their excavator, they managed to pull it off beautifully. Next was the Bus Stop Team. The village has one bus stop, and their job was to bring it to life. A portrait of an important Greek artist born in the village, a depiction of the ancient poet Sappho, and even some sheep \u2014 a typical village symbol \u2014 all found their place on the bus stop walls.<\/p>\n

About 20 minutes&#39; walk from the village, hidden in the forest, is a waterfall where we spent many hot afternoons. Without the locals, it would have been nearly impossible to find. This is where the third and final team came in. They were given several wooden boards and tasked with creating signs to help people find the waterfall more easily. We worked wonderfully in our teams. We played music while we worked, sometimes even danced, and genuinely enjoyed the teamwork and seeing the village slowly transform into a more beautiful place. We got to know each other more deeply. Since we had to work together to get things done, it taught us to communicate, to listen, and to be inspired by one another\u2019s ideas.<\/p>\n

Evenings had a different atmosphere. Some nights, we sat in the local caf\u00e9, played games, laughed, and talked until sunrise. Others we spent surrounded by locals. We organized a Social Coffee event, with the main goal of meeting women and girls from the village. We wanted to learn more about their lives, their daily routines, traditions, dreams, and hobbies. It was an unforgettable evening.<\/p>\n

Culture Night also had its charm \u2014 we danced traditional dances from different countries, sang, and shared stories. Our activity for the children was also a big success. We prepared several game stations, with a little surprise waiting for them at the end. We used our free days productively. Together, we travelled to several places on the island, enjoying the sea and beaches. Of course, we also visited historical landmarks and discovered the unique charm of each place. Saying goodbye was hard. We formed new friendships that we all hope will last for many years. Each of us left a little piece of ourselves in Chidira \u2014 and not just in the form of a handprint on the wall. We hope we also left something behind in the hearts of the people living in the village, something new that might enrich their lives. And just as we left something there, we also took something with us. We\u2019ll carry Chidira with us for a long time \u2014 all the things this place, and especially the people in it, taught us.<\/p>\n
